Bologna library |
Alessandra's friend Elena sees me off; I'm on my way to
Bologna. She tells me it is a university town. After checking into the hotel I Portici I make my way to the center of the city.
My short stay means I see little of Bologna. Since it is a
city for students, what better place to visit than one of the many libraries? I
visit Biblioteca Comunale dell'Archiginnasio. Constructed between 1562 and 1563,
the library's long history speaks of the many scholars, past and present, who
have made good use of its learned halls. Today the Società Medica Chirurgica and by the
Accademia di Agricoltura occupy much of the first floor, portraits of
distinguished doctors fill the walls.
